A Decent Attemp At Something Decent

Posted by TheNooch - November 20th, 2008

Ok, so this is my first real attempt at something like this. I've sketched many characters like this in the back of a notebook at school and work, but never really tried to add color or detailed lighting.

So I guess this marks the pinnacle of my current photoshop painting abilities. I prefer animation, but I figured this would be quicker for a portfolio submission to a college. And it was quicker, probably took me around a total of 18 hrs.

So I think it's pretty good. My only real complaints are the hood, and she has a bit of a hoarse face. No one else I've talked to thinks so, maybe I've just been starring at the computer screen too long.

I'm pretty proud of her eyes, hair, and the shading of her jaw, collerbone, and shirt.

So here it is, I present to you "Character FL". She's a character for an animation I've been planning to make for many years, I haven't decided on her name yet. Any suggestions?

Also, won't you please check out my DeviantArt Profile? You can check out "Character FL" in her full size and splender.

It's really nice, I like it. Only one critique, Mystery Girl's lower jaw juts out a bit much, and her face extends and makes her seem much older than I would guess her to be otherwise, and originally intended to be.
Despite this, though, it is definitely a very nice piece of artwork, and I am jealous.

Well the idea for this particular picture began as an anime-esqu doodle in the back of a notebook (as I've hinted above). It worked well in simple black and white doodle form, but I guess not as much when I added depth. I just felt I'd try to stay as true to the original sketch as possable. She does have a bit of a horse face right? See, no one I've talked to thought so.

Thanks for your thoughtful critique, it's much appreciated.
